Why Am I Being Asked to Re-subscribe?

Category: Memberships | Last updated: July 01, 2026

The creator you support moved from Patreon to Equipoise. Here's why your old pledge didn't come with them, and what happens next.

Why Am I Being Asked to Re-subscribe?

If you've been supporting a creator on Patreon and they've moved to Equipoise, you probably just got an email asking you to re-subscribe. You might be wondering why your existing pledge didn't transfer automatically. Here's what's going on.

The Short Version

Patreon doesn't allow transferring active payments to another platform. The creator can see your name and email, and they can tell you they've moved — but they can't bring your credit card or your active pledge with them. To keep supporting them, you need to start a new subscription on Equipoise.

Why Can't They Just Transfer It?

When you pledge to a creator on Patreon, you're technically a customer of Patreon's — not a customer of the creator's. Your card is stored in Patreon's payment system. The creator doesn't have access to it. When they move to a different platform, they take their content and their audience, but the payment relationship has to be rebuilt from your end.

This is the same reason streaming services can't transfer your subscription between them — the card on file belongs to the service, not the show.

What Does the Creator Keep?

When they move, they typically bring:

What they don't bring is your active card and pledge. That's on your end to re-establish.

What Do You Get for Re-subscribing?

Usually better pricing — Equipoise charges the creator a much lower fee than Patreon does (about 3% processor cost versus Patreon's 8–12% platform cut plus processing). So more of your monthly support actually reaches the creator.

Many creators offer a "founding member" perk for supporters who re-subscribe quickly — a bonus post, a discount, or a custom thank-you. Check the email they sent you or their membership page.

What If I Decide Not To?

Totally fine. You're not obligated to move with the creator. If you don't re-subscribe within the creator's transition window, your access on Patreon will eventually end when their Patreon account closes. You won't be charged on Patreon anymore once the creator cancels their page.

How to Re-subscribe

  1. Visit the creator's Equipoise page (the link is usually in the email they sent).
  2. Pick the tier that matches (or upgrades) what you had on Patreon.
  3. Enter your card at checkout.
  4. Your membership is active immediately.
